How to scan for custom symbol list
Often you want to limit your scan to a list of stocks you know and you are looking for the right timing to make the trade. These stocks can be stocks you own, stocks in your watchlist, or stocks that fit specific criteria (like custom sector, geography, supply chain, etc).
It is very easy to filter your results according to a list of stocks. To do so, simply:
- Click the 'Add a filter' button.
- Choose the 'Include/Exclude Symbols' filter under Descriptive Data, if not already available on the left (you can search for 'Symbols' if you can't see it)
- Once it's added, you'll see two rows:
- + SCAN: what the scan is allowed to look at. Click Add list to pick a watchlist, and/or type loose tickers into the box next to it (commas or spaces both work, and you can paste from other sources).
- − EXCEPT: what to leave out, with the same two options: lists and loose tickers.
You can add more than one watchlist to each row, and mix watchlists with individual tickers. That opens up combinations like:
- Scan S&P 500 + NASDAQ-100 but exclude My Positions, so you never get suggestions on names you already hold.
- Scan your whole universe but exclude two or three tickers you simply don't want to trade - just type them into the EXCEPT box.
You can also create a custom list once, and use it in any scan. The link stays live: change what's in the watchlist and every scan that uses it changes with it - no need to open each scan and edit it. See here: Watchlists.
You can also go the other way: open a watchlist, click Use in a scan, and pick one of your saved scans to run it restricted to that list.
